POSITION PURPOSE

Coordinate maintenance activities in support of the Director Of Engineering, with a primary focus on Health, Safety & Security at The Westin Excelsior Rome. Provide technical support to develop a proactive, skilled, and operationally excellent maintenance team through training, mentoring, and empowerment.


Maintenance Operations:

Assist the Director Of Engineering to Ensure the building and its systems (mechanical, electrical, HVAC) are maintained in optimal condition. Support the implementation of the preventive maintenance plan, ensuring compliance with Marriott standards and guest expectations.


H&S – Occupational Health and Safety

  • Assist in the preparation of emergency and fire prevention plans (general evacuation exercises & tabletops)
  • Support the preparation of documentation for audits and annual H&S action plans.
  • Conduct quarterly safety audits and risk assessments and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with current occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Implement procedures for hotel lockdown scenario.
  • Actively participate in the Health & Safety Committee (H&S);
  • Promote a culture of safety through training, communication, and operational oversight.


Security – Physical and Asset Protection

  • Monitor key control and loss prevention measures.
  • Manage monthly checklists for CCTV, alarmed doors, and emergency exit devices.
  • Integrate the inspection of recording systems into patrol routes.
  • Apply the Duty of Care protocol to safeguard guests and staff.
  • Analyze abnormal or risky activities and implement mitigation plans.
  • Manage asset security and emergency response.
  • Oversee claims and insurance cases related to company assets.
  • Foster interdepartmental cooperation to strengthen preventive security measures.
  • Promote an environment of trust, mutual respect, and teamwork.


CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Conduct periodic inspections of systems, structures, and equipment.
  • Support the routine maintenance activities in public areas.
  • Verify the correct execution of repair, replacement, and refurbishment works.
  • Draft technical specifications and drawings for minor projects.
  • Support the definition of scopes of work for suppliers.
  • Coordinate the review of technical documents with designers and consultants.
  • Provides assistance to the Director Of Engineering in training and development of engineering staff;
  • Adheres to all corporate policies and controls in Health & Safety and Purchasing and make sure third parties/external contractors follow our policies & procedures;
  • Implement preventive maintenance and energy efficiency programs.
  • Elaborate technical and operational data, producing analytical reports to support decision-making.


SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Good communication and teamwork abilities;
  • Initiative and motivation;
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • Maintains a clean and professional personal appearance.
  • Maintains confidentiality of property information and protects company assets.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, CMMS, etc.);
  • Familiarity with procurement, technical documentation, and record keeping;
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems (chillers, boilers, water treatment, refrigeration);
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, and energy utilities;


QUALIFICATION STANDARDS


Education:

Bachelor’s degree required; preferred in Building Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Architecture


Experience:

Preferably experience in a related maintenance or engineering role

Prior hotel experience preferred.


Licenses or Certificates:

Valid certifications in Health & Safety and any legally required permits for engineering operations in the hotel environment.
