MEDICAL ASSISTANT
School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County is excited to announce we are currently hiring for a Medical Assistant! We are looking for an energetic and organized Medical Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the medical office. This position will also support doctors and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication. For 30 years, School Health Clinics of Santa Clara County has offered low-cost, high-quality medical services to low-income families. Our mission is to provide high-quality, affordable primary medical care for the low-income community. Research has shown that providing low-income and minority students with healthcare and health education gives kids a chance to stay in school and perform better academically. Although we began as pediatric clinics, we now extend our services to adults. No one is ever turned away due to their inability to pay. All five clinics are located on school grounds in Santa Clara County, right in the neighborhoods where our patients live. Our staff is bilingual and multicultural so our patients can easily understand the medical advice that is given and is not intimidated because of a language barrier.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant, under the direction of the Clinic Manager, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant, performs various patient care activities, clerical duties, and other duties related to the smooth operation of a School Health Clinic activities; must be able to use good judgment in carrying out job tasks and be sensitive to the School Health Clinics needs in cooperation with the interdisciplinary team and other school departments; assures the clinic is well organized so that the highest quality of medical care will be provided.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Registers patients for the Health Clinic by determining the presence of a current Parental Consent form and confirming that signature if necessary; and completing all necessary registration forms.
- Assures receipt of all insurance information from the patient.
- Prepares patients to be seen by the Practitioner by locating the correct chart and performing and recording vital signs on each patient.
- Assists in performing selected tests such as urine testing for HCG, HGB, Protein, Sugar, Blood, etc.
- Provides simple medical treatment under the supervision of the Practitioner to select patients that may involve such things as the application of non-sterile compresses, ice, bandages, and charts this when appropriate.
- Assist patients in completing necessary documents.
- Assist with referral tracking, following up with patients for whom the clinic is PCP.
- Collects and checks for accuracy, evaluation, and billing data. Enters registrations and visit information into the computer accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.
- Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of all patients seen.
- May work at other clinic locations as needed.
- Ensure the provider schedule is booked to goal.
- Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Medical Assistant Certificate from an approved Medical Assistant program as required by the State of California.
- CPR certified.
- One-year of current clinical experience as an M.A. preferred.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE OF AND ABILITY TO:
- Knowledge of office routine and filing system.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Ability to interact in a courteous helpful manner with patients, clients, and staff.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population and positively in a teamwork environment.
- Knowledge of or be willing to learn community health and welfare resources.
- Knowledge of computers and their applications.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to use tact and diplomacy in dealing with patients, co-workers, visitors, and callers since many situations involve the provision of sensitive services.
- Skills in prioritizing, organizing, and planning job tasks.
- Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of impending emergencies and initiate the appropriate responses.
- Ability to function, under protocols, with remote supervision when necessary.
- Employment screening is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The position requires occasional moderate to heavy activity levels involving lifting (up to 50 pounds), bending, pushing, and pulling.
- May be exposed to microbial contamination from ill patients.
- Usual clinic environment with frequent interruptions in work to answer telephones and deal with crises.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
