Description
Seminole County is a member of the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority, dba LYNX, and currently operates eleven (11) fixed-routes and two (2) Neighborlink zones within the County. Due to low ridership and high cost, the County is migrating away from a route-focused system to a rider-focused system. The beginning of this migration occurred with the Board of County Commissioners’ approval to eliminate or reduce a significant number of under performing fixed LYNX routes and replace them with a more robust on-demand door to door public transits system in the form of micro-transit. This on-demand system will allow riders to get to all the places they’re used to traveling to and more. The County’s new public transit service will come when you need it and pick you up/drop you off close to your destination. The amended service delivery will not displace ADA transportation services (para-transit).
This conversion of a public transportation delivery method is a large undertaking that is anticipated to take place from May of 2025 through December of 2025 with the micro-transit service launch date planned for October of 2025 and the cessation of certain LYNX routes in December of 2025. To aid in this conversion and implementation, multiple Micro-transit Interns are needed to be part of the implementation team.
A Micro-transit Intern could be involved in a variety of tasks related to on-demand public transportation, such as data analysis, marketing, customer outreach, technology testing, and/or operations implementation product/service verification and testing. These tasks could include communicating with potential riders, handling inquiries, marketing, monitoring implementation schedules and contract compliance, verifying and testing implementation components, coordinating with community partners, and collecting feedback.
