Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Patient Financial Coordinator to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of hospital operations, medical billing, and patient service processes. In this role, you will serve as a vital link between patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to ensure accurate financial documentation, billing, and compliance with healthcare regulations. Your expertise in medical coding, discharge planning, and case management will contribute significantly to the efficient financial operations of our facility. Duties
- Assist patients with financial inquiries, insurance verification, and payment options while maintaining a compassionate and professional demeanor.
- Review and process medical records, ensuring accuracy in documentation related to hospital stays, outpatient visits, and behavioral health services.
- Utilize CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes for accurate billing and reimbursement processes.
- Collaborate with case management and discharge planning teams to coordinate patient discharges and ensure proper documentation for billing purposes.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient information during all financial transactions.
- Conduct intake assessments for new patients, verifying insurance coverage and explaining financial responsibilities clearly.
- Support the hospital’s efforts in acute care settings by managing medical records requests and ensuring timely billing submissions.
- Engage in ongoing education related to medical terminology, social work practices, and behavioral health billing procedures to stay current with industry standards.
Requirements
- Prior experience working within a hospital or healthcare setting is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical coding systems including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and general medical terminology.
- Familiarity with social work practices, behavioral health services, pediatrics, and discharge planning processes.
- Experience handling patient service interactions with professionalism and empathy.
- Understanding of HIPAA compliance standards related to patient privacy and data security.
- Ability to manage medical records efficiently while supporting case management activities.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation and billing procedures.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including clinicians, social workers, and insurance providers.
