Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Pharmacy Student or Intern to gain hands-on experience in the dispensary of a retail drugstore pharmacy, supporting pharmacists with prescription processing, medication preparation, and patient counseling under direct supervision. The ideal candidate, currently enrolled in an accredited pharmacy program, will focus exclusively on dispensary operations to develop clinical and pharmaceutical skills in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Prescription Processing
Assist pharmacists in receiving, entering, data verifying, and processing prescriptions, including labeling, filling, and preparation under direct supervision. Conduct medication history interviews, perform basic patient counseling on prescriptions and OTC products, and support adherence counseling. Handle prescription transfers, renewals, and third-party billing tasks as directed.
Clinical and Compounding Support
Support medication compounding, pill packing, and non sterile preparations following protocols. Administer vaccines or injections if certified, and assist with clinical services like blood pressure checks or health screenings in the dispensary. Maintain accurate patient profiles and medication records for continuity of care.
Inventory and Compliance
Manage dispensary inventory by ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating pharmaceuticals while monitoring expiry dates. Ensure compliance with privacy laws (e.g., PIPEDA), health/safety standards, and controlled substance protocols. Report discrepancies and participate in quality assurance audits.
Qualifications
- Enrollment in an accredited pharmacy program , with student or intern registration with NSPR.
- Basic knowledge of pharmacology, strong attention to detail, and math skills for dosing calculations.
- Excellent communication, ability to work under supervision, and flexibility for shifts including evenings/weekends; prior dispensary exposure an asset.
- Certification in injections or immunizations beneficial.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
