Purpose of the Role (Summary)
Through flexible and responsive Portfolio Solutions, we enable the growing needs of our intermediaries and customers in this accelerating market of aggregated risk. Portfolio Solutions includes both Delegated and Digital Solutions and is one of our key demand pathways.
In context, Liberty in Europe plan to grow Portfolio Solutions (PS) to more than USD300m GWP over the next 5 years with defined profitability ratios for ROE and PTOI.
The role is focussed on supporting and coordinating development of PS new business pipeline as well as building and managing relationships with existing PS Partners, including Brokers, Coverholders, Underwriting Agencies and MGA’s to ensure there is a strategic alignment and a long term and profitable partnership.
This role is regional and frequent travel should be expected across the assigned region as well as to adjacent countries and other Liberty offices within Europe.
The role will have a dual report to Head of Client and Broker Distribution and Head of APB.
Key Responsibilities
- This role has two key areas of focus which are aligned to the wider Portfolio Solutions Strategy & Vision:
- Partnership Development – identify and develop business opportunities from source to onboarding.
- Relationship Management – take responsibility for and manage key partnerships (generally partners who are important strategically and/or generate GWP in excess of $1.5m)
- Business Development - working closely with local distribution and underwriting teams, as well as the wider Portfolio Solutions team; identify targets and build a pipeline of Portfolio Solutions opportunities for each country.
- Follow up on identified opportunities making sure all stakeholders are involved and informed as needed. This may include Head of Portfolio Solution Distribution, Digital Strategy Lead, Portfolio Solutions Underwriting Manager, Portfolio Solutions Ops & Support, local European Branch Manager, Sponsoring Underwriter and European Distribution Team local member.
- Coordinate the internal underwriting, compliance, implementation process in an efficient, collaborative and systematic manner.
- Manage the relationship with strategic PS partners within your assigned Region in close coordination with key internal stakeholders.

- Establish and maintain a timetable for regular meetings and formal business and operational reviews with the aim of building a mutually beneficial partnership, based on alignment, trust and transparency.
- Identify cross-sell/expansion opportunities for other LOBS with existing partners
- Market Facilities – manage the pipeline and coordinate the RFP/RFT process with all key internal and external stakeholders.
- Build and continually update PS market landscape within your assigned region, collecting information from various sources such as professional networks, industry media, associations, Country Managers, LOB and the EDT. This Market landscape should encompass both partner prospects and intelligence through competitor analysis. This will allow LII Europe to be proactive, strategic and informed across both business development and strategic planning.
- Develop and maintain a strategic plan which should take into consideration current and anticipated market dynamics and developments, particularly with regard to M&A and consolidation.
- Be an active member of the Portfolio Solutions team and the wider European Distribution Team and support collaboration and promote information sharing across both teams.
- Provide input to internal reporting requirements, such as QBR’s and Board Papers.
- Support new business approvals and renewal Round Tables with relationship and strategy updates.
- Providing a focal point of contact to LII’s European offices within your assigned region to establish and maintain a productive new business pipeline

Skills & Experience
- Has worked in a Business Development and/or Client Relationship role within the European Insurance market.
- Good experience in contractual and commercial negotiations.
- Good knowledge and experience of delegated underwriting arrangements with brokers, coverholders or MGA’s
- Knowledge and experience of digital distribution
- Demonstrates a good understanding of underwriting and underwriting processes, performance and portfolio management.
- Self- starter with strong initiative and demonstrated capacity to achieve strategic objectives and project deliverables on time
- Business analytics skills critical – comfortable reviewing detailed information, piecing it together and preparing summarised case files with clear & efficient communication.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Fluency in one European language and English – other languages would be advantageous
