Powders Production Supervisor
POSITION PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Manages, directs, and oversees powder lines. Works with the Powder Manager to schedule production of products, ensuring efficient operations and adherence to quality standards.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Team Leadership & Development:
  • Assists with interviewing, hiring, and training team leads, operators, and team members.
  • Plans, assigns, and directs work assignments in conjunction with the schedule and direction from the Powder Manager.
  • Evaluates and appraises performance against KPIs established by management.
  • Rewards, coaches, and manages job expectations with employees.
  • Resolves conflict and issues addressed by employee complaints and concerns.
  • Reviews current staffing lists, identifies new hires or skill gaps, and confirms daily cross-training or task rotations with Line Leads. Logs updates in the department training matrix.
  • Conducts pre-shift meetings with Line Leads to review production goals, labor issues, line-specific risks, process changes, new SOPs, and safety alerts.
  • Verifies staff attendance against the daily schedule, makes adjustments for absences, ensures critical positions are filled, and communicates changes to Line Leads.
Production & Operations Management:
  • Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meet specifications.
  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices. Observes and coaches employees to ensure compliance with standards and work practices.
  • Works with the Production Manager to reduce labor costs and maximize efficiency and labor assignments.
  • Works with the Production Manager to determine work schedules and assigns duties/responsibilities accordingly to each line.
  • Must follow and enforce all GMP, SOPs, and specifications on all customer orders.
  • Understands resources within departments to properly allocate work orders, ensuring completion within the time frame defined by production planning.
  • Monitors line start-up procedures, engages with Line Leads and Operators to identify and resolve start-up issues, and logs/escalates recurring delays or equipment concerns.
  • Walks the production floor before the shift to verify equipment is powered and cleared, using feedback from Line Leads and Maintenance to verify readiness.
  • Performs random audits of staged components to verify they match the batch schedule and PBR.
  • Confirms all batch paperwork, labels, and documentation are printed and staged, and communicates with Document Control if revisions or reprints are required.
Quality, Safety & Maintenance Coordination:
  • Assists the Quality group with corrective actions, customer complaints, and process improvements.
  • Performs a safety walk before full-scale production begins, checking that operators are wearing PPE and all guarding is in place. Logs findings and reports urgent concerns.
  • Checks open work orders for scheduled or active maintenance items and coordinates with the Maintenance department.
  • Reviews previous day's batch records, auditing for completeness, identifying missing signatures, low yield issues, or data gaps, and collaborating with QA to investigate anomalies.
  • Requests sanitation tasks for completed jobs directly through Ignition, communicates with the Sanitation Lead to confirm task timing and production impact, and follows up to ensure cleaning is completed before the next job is staged.
  • Submits sanitation requests through the Ignition system immediately after jobs are completed, ensuring correct equipment and area identification, and confirming acceptance and scheduling with the Sanitation Lead.
Communication & Reporting:
  • Participates in Operator Tier 1, 2, and 3 meetings depending on daily priority and schedule.
  • Captures and communicates production risks, carryover issues, and any labor or material gaps to the Production Manager.
  • Ensures meeting takeaways are shared with Line Leads to align on expectations and execution.
  • Any other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree, 2-4 years related experience; or 5+ years related work experience in manufacturing environment; preferably nutraceutical or pharmaceutical environment.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Excellent production and manufacturing background with an understanding of contact packaging.
  • Knowledge of MS Applications.
  • Strong critical thinking and communications skills.
  • Ability to work well and manage others.
  • Oracle experience a plus, but not required.
  • Forklift certified.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Manufacturing/office environment which may include loud noise levels for extended periods of time, long hours standing, sitting, bending, twisting, walking, climbing stairs, strong odors, lifting up to 50 lbs, confined spaces, warm and cold temperatures, wet/slippery and slick surface environment.
