Press Operator I

Position: Printing Press Operator I
Compensation: $31.69 CAD

Location:
Toppan Flexible Packaging
1691 Matheson Blvd East, Mississauga, ON

Hours of Work:
12-hour continental rotating shifts. From time to time, overtime will be required. This shift is not fixed and may be subject to change. If a shift change is required, you will be notified in advance.

Reporting To:
Production Manager / Shift Supervisors

Purpose

To operate and run your own shift productively.

Job Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Understand and apply all safety rules, regulations, and procedures, including use of PPE and safe manufacturing practices (e.g., cut-resistant gloves, proper blade handling).
  • Maintain company health and housekeeping standards.
  • Train employees in Standard Operating Procedures, Job Safety Analysis, and HECP.
  • Direct the duties of other Press Operators assigned to your press.
  • Supervise set-up of press and register new/complex jobs, including process work.
  • Repair minor plate issues.
  • Troubleshoot press problems during a run.
  • Troubleshoot minor maintenance issues with the press.
  • Train and demonstrate best press techniques for personnel.
  • Minimize waste and improve efficient use of materials.
  • Set the standard for excellence in product quality.
  • Ensure product quality meets all customer requirements.
  • Understand and troubleshoot press and registration systems.
  • Communicate effectively with others.
  • Demonstrate visual acuity and colour perception to distinguish colour shades.
  • Act as crew leader: responsible for training crew members, ensuring timely training, and signing off each press member as they advance through levels.
  • Apply basic mounting skills.
  • Perform lab checks.
  • Complete paperwork and accurate reporting.
  • Manage colour systems and quality control.
  • Accurately report production and downtime.
  • Ensure all safety, quality, and production checks are completed.
  • Participate in SPS programs and initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Secondary school completion required.
  • Ability to learn and apply new concepts of electronic control and computer systems.
  • Able to operate at high speeds with high productivity.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Calm with good analytical reasoning to troubleshoot issues.
  • Serious, clean, and neat in work habits.
  • Possesses initiative and quick decisiveness.
  • Diligent, punctual, and conscientious.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with both metric and imperial measurements.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers and supervisors.
