Starting annual salary: $45,000

JOB SUMMARY

The Prevention Program Coordinator administers and coordinates a substance abuse prevention program, provide documentation, data, and reports of services as required by program policies and funding source. The Prevention Program Coordinator serves as a resource/referral and community liaison between the school district, youth groups and other community organizations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts assessment and strategic planning of a comprehensive alcohol and other drug prevention program including the development of strategic plans, goals and measurable objectives for alcohol and other drug preventions.
  • Serves as a resource and support for students who have concerns regarding their or someone else's substance abuse and/or who may be at risk for abuse or dependence.
  • Provides substance abuse education and prevention to students.
  • Attends trainings, technical assistance meetings and conferences as required.
  • Serves as a liaison with treatment providers, staff, students, internal and external departments and agencies.
  • Maintains weekly and monthly schedule of activities within the community.
  • Collaborates with local evaluator and ensure evaluation deliverables.
  • Submits planning documents and all data reporting in the funder's prevention data collections system.
  • Provides technical assistance and capacity building to local coalition partners.
  • Volunteer recruitment, training, coordination, and management.
  • Develops effective prevention and health promotion strategies that will lead to long-term involvement of community institutions, organizations, and individuals in health promotion and substance abuse prevention leading to reductions in substance abuse rates in the community.
  • Oversees coalition activities and associated projects.

Experience and Skills:

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, public health, prevention, counseling or related field, from an accredited program required.

EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS

  • Two to four years of related professional experience.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to drive or obtain transportation to provide services throughout the service area.
  • Knowledgeable of the causes and effects of drugs and alcohol addiction and the impact it has on individuals, families, and communities.
  • Proficient knowledge in youth development framework and experience with at -risk youth populations.
  • Experience in developing and facilitating group training events, focus groups and prevention presentations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work with diverse population of students, faculty, staff, external programs and agencies.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaborative.
  • Demonstrated ability working with data collection, analysis and reporting.
  • Demonstrated time management, organizational and supervisory skills.
  • Experience with social norms and marketing campaigns.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills and interpersonal skills including presentation and public speaking.
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment and interact with culturally diverse individuals.
  • Experience in coordinating a peer education program.
  • Physically able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
