Principal Electrical Engineer

Wood is currently sourcing for a Principal Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in the LNG sector to work in our Singapore office. These positions are pending the award of major work, which we hope to secure in the very near future.

The Principal Electrical Engineer is accountable for the successful delivery of capital projects, ensuring zero safety or quality incidents, and completion within approved timelines and budgets. This role supports strategic site objectives by ensuring projects meet engineering, safety, and regulatory standards, and align with operational excellence.

  • Overall operation of the Electrical Specialists group within the project with high quality and timely completion of their work within the established work hour budgets for the assigned project
  • Ensuring engineering and design quality, technical accuracy of drawings, material quantities, specifications, procedures, etc. produced within the electrical disciplines assigned to him
  • Execution of assigned work in accordance with applicable contract procedures, standards
  • Adherence to Wood Engineering Procedure / Work Instruction for design safety, and to ensure the adoption of safe attitudes towards engineering design, and that features affecting the safety and integrity of the project are reviewed by appropriately authorised engineers from other groups/departments.
  • Ensuring adequate flow of information within electrical and other disciplines to ensure uniformity in design and drafting activities
  • Ensure adequate manpower resources and their technical competence are available for his assigned area
  • Advise the Discipline Head of manpower requirements to meet work schedules within the budget allocation
  • Reviewing with the other Area Electrical Engineer and other Discipline Lead Engineers for all the needs and technical aspect which can affect the schedule of the project
  • Reviewing with the Project Engineering Manager /Area Project Engineers all the needs and technical aspects which can affect the schedule of the project
  • Preparing, reviewing, Issuing and follow up of all electrical deliverables up to the issue for construction
  • Approving all electrical deliverables produced with in the electrical team, prior to initial and construction release
  • Reviewing, issuing and follow-up the comments, within his term of reference, on all drawings/documents related to other discipline which may be affected by electrical activities
  • Submit monthly progress reports and drawing indices to Project Control
  • Review requests for changes and if outside the scope of work, submit to Project Engineering Manager an estimate of man-hours, costs, and any effect to programme
  • Seek corporate assistance for super check on critical or important documents
  • Assist during Technical audit with required documentation etc… & close all critical observation immediately after technical audit report is distributed
  • Preparation of sub-contract requisition along with its attachments such as MTO/BOQ and list of documents that are required by sub-contractor
  • Ensure that the 3D model represents satisfactory design practice
  • Review and approve technical bid summaries when required
  • Prepare the engineering butt lists relevant to electrical disciplines for all remaining activities to be performed
  • Update regularly lesson learned database
  • Provide fortnightly report to section manager
  • Provide regular update on project key quantities to PEM / PM / PCM
  • Conduct weekly meeting with team to understand & provide constructive solutions for any outstanding open items
  • Brief team about the project critical documents such as project & construction execution procedure, work break down structure, general requirement for 2D & 3D activities, CAD procedures, change management, electrical general specification, project schedule, important mile stones, inter-discipline checks, client specification, check lists, concept sketches, so that team is fully aware about the project requirement
  • Conduct/Assist model review with client & internal which is inline AFW procedure
  • Proper close out report to be prepared & submitted to PEM immediately after model review comments are distributed
  • To be part of field engineering team as per project need
  • Assist when required in interviewing prospective new personnel both staff and agency
  • Assist when required in preparation of proposals and in presentations to prospective clients
  • Providing “Feedback” to the Discipline Head concerning problems arising from application of standard methods and work procedures/instruction/technical practices and updates the same
  • Carry out technical investigations, produce technical reports as and when required
  • Assist in the developing and training of subordinate personnel
  • Suggest new software, books and standards
  • Provide technical presentation on electrical equipment’s, electrical design

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering with 15-20 years of experience in LNG, Refinery / Petrochemical/Chemical/Power/Pharmaceutical Plant Projects
  • Significant experience on LNG process plant projects
  • Knowledge of electrical power systems, conversant with international codes and standards of electrical power systems
  • Familiar with PC based software for electrical system studies/calculations such as ETAP, SKM etc
  • Self-motivated, self-reliant, energetic, taking proactive measure are desired
  • Able to lead, motivate & guide team comprising of Engineers & Designer
