Position Overview
We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Product Development Project Engineer to join our Product Technology Team, supporting our hot blown film and conversion operations. This role plays a pivotal part in driving innovation and enhancing operational efficiency through technical cross-functional project management, while overseeing material and process changes that influence product performance and production results.".
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Lead cross-functional projects from concept through to implementation, including scope definition, planning, execution, and post-launch review.
- Develop and maintain project timelines, budgets, and resource plans.
- Collaborate with internal teams (process engineering, production, planning, quality, procurement) and external suppliers to ensure project milestones are achieved.
Material & Process Change Management
- Evaluate and implement changes to raw materials, additives, and film structures to enhance performance, sustainability, or cost-effectiveness.
- Conduct trials and validations for new materials and conversion processes.
- Maintain documentation and change control protocols in line with regulatory and quality standards.
- Manage and update relevant databases, including formulations, materials, and compliance records.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide product technology support to process engineering and production teams across blown film extrusion and conversion.
- Analyse product performance, process data to identify improvement opportunities and conduct root cause analysis for product, production issues.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead product optimisation initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
- Work closely with stakeholders to identify and implement improvements in product quality, production efficiency, and waste reduction.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all projects comply with applicable health and safety, environmental, and industry standards.
- Support audits and maintain documentation for regulatory and quality compliance.
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering (or a related field).
- Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in an engineering/ technical project management role, ideally within the packaging industry.
- Understanding of polymer materials, extrusion processes, and converting technologies.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organisation.
- Proficiency in project management tools and data analysis software.
Preferred skills
- Experience with ERP systems and change management platforms.
- Familiarity with sustainability initiatives in packaging.
- Project Management certification, Lean Six Sigma, or similar qualifications are advantageous.
