Product Manager – Checkout Apps At Extenda Retail

About Extenda Retail

Extenda Retail builds the technology behind some of the most ambitious retailers in Europe and beyond. Our cloud-native Hii Retail platform unifies the entire in-store and omnichannel experience on a single, modern foundation.

At the core of the platform sits Hii Checkout: one engine powering every transaction across Point of Sales (POS), self-checkout, Mobile Point of Sales (MPO) and Scan & Go (SCO). It's built on MACH principles — microservices, API-first, cloud-native and headless — and runs on Google Cloud. When you're building checkout apps for brands like ICA, Axfood, Plantagen, and Auchan, you are designing for millions of daily interactions. This is genuinely modern retail software, and we're building it for the next decade, not the last one.

Why should you join Extenda Retail?

Extenda Retail is the kind of place where people tend to stay longer than they planned to, not because of the perks, but because the work is real and the people around them are good. The culture is demanding, but in the right way: high expectations, genuine ownership and a shared interest in getting things right. The values (trust, care & innovation) aren't decorative. They show up in how decisions get made and how people treat each other when things get hard. There's a genuine care for the people here, not as a stated policy, but as something you actually feel. If you want a place to grow, be challenged, and do work that matters, this is it!

The role

This role is part of Product Strategy and Management which is a department led by our CPO and manned with senior people deciding what Extenda Retail builds. We're deliberate about why we build what we build and we're separate from engineering, that decides how we build it.

We're looking for a Product Manager to own our Checkout Apps: POS, SCO and MPOS. These are the products closest to the moment that matters most in retail: the transaction itself, where a stressed cashier, a queueing shopper or someone scanning their own basket either has a smooth experience — or doesn't.

That makes this a deeply UX-driven role. You'll care as much about how it feels to ring up an order at peak hour as about what's on the roadmap. You think in flows and friction, not just features. You'll own your area end to end which means strategy, roadmap, discovery and outcomes. You will work side by side with UX design and engineering to turn a strong platform into checkout products that staff and shoppers genuinely love to use. You won't be handed a backlog to administer. You'll be expected to form a sharp point of view about the experience we should build, and drive it.

Product Management at Extenda Retail

As the Product Manager for Checkout Apps (POS, SCO, MPOS), you will own the product strategy and roadmap, aligning it closely with our broader Hii Retail vision. You’ll be part of a team of product managers collaborating across the product suite, working in lockstep with the engineering teams who develop and deliver the products. You will obsess over the end-user experience, both for store staff at the POS and shoppers in self-service and mobile flows—by hunting down friction, reducing steps, increasing clarity and visibility, and making complex interactions feel effortless. From the very start of discovery, you’ll partner closely with UX/design to shape solutions together and sweat the details that make checkout fast, clear, and reliable.

To achieve this, you will talk directly to retailers, store staff, and shoppers to deeply understand the realities of the checkout environment, translating those insights into sharp problem statements and validating them quickly through prototypes, store visits, and data. You will prioritize ruthlessly to turn a long wish-list into a focused, high-impact roadmap, collaborating with pre-sales, customer success, and commercial teams to ensure what we build lands beautifully in live deployments.

Innovation is at the heart of this role: you will continuously look for opportunities to embed AI into POS and self-service flows as a native part of the UI rather than a bolt-on. Furthermore, you will use modern AI tools (like Claude and Gemini) as a core part of your daily workflow to accelerate research, synthesis, and spec-writing, constantly raising the bar on quality and speed.

What you bring

You are a proactive, impact-driven Product Manager who thrives in ambiguity and cares deeply about product craft: clunky user experiences genuinely bother you. You define success by user and business outcomes rather than feature count, and you build alignment across technical and commercial teams through clear context rather than authority. Always curious about the future of the PM craft, you actively integrate AI into your daily workflow and are excited to design it natively into user experiences. Above all, you value progress over perfection, relying on continuous learning and smart iteration to build great products.

We think your background looks something like this:

  • Product Ownership: 3–5 years of SaaS Product Management experience, ideally owning a substantial product area end-to-end with a track record of delivering successful, highly utilized product features

  • UX & Craft: A strong instinct for usability and interaction design, with a deep care for making interfaces fast, intuitive, and frictionless (hands-on UX experience is a big plus).

  • Technical & Commercial Judgment: Solid technical instincts—comfortable discussing APIs and architecture with engineers while balancing value and trade-offs with commercial teams.

  • AI-First Workflow: Hands-on fluency using modern AI tools (e.g., Claude, Lovable) for prototyping, research, and accelerating discovery as a natural part of your daily routine.

  • Drive & Communication: Excellent English communication skills, a strong bias for action, comfort with ambiguity, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Nice to Have (But Not Required)

While not prerequisites, we would love to see experience in:

  • UX/interaction design, usability research, or design-led product work.

  • Retail software (POS, checkout, payments, in-store systems, or omnichannel commerce).

  • Cloud-native / MACH architectures (microservices, API-first, headless).

  • Working with enterprise customers across multiple markets.

Retail experience is a plus, not a must. If you are a strong, UX-minded SaaS PM who is excited by this domain, we want to hear from you!
