Production Supervisor

About Meadow Mushrooms
Meadow Mushrooms is one of New Zealand’s great entrepreneurial stories. Founded in 1970, this family-owned business has grown into the country’s leading mushroom producer, delivering around 9 million mushrooms every week. Today, we’re recognised as a leader in fresh produce nationally and within the global mushroom industry.

At Meadow Mushrooms, our success is built on people who take pride in their work, value teamwork, and understand the importance of doing the basics well, every day. Our production roles are hands-on, practical, and essential to ensure we are delivering consistent, high-quality fresh produce.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Production Coordinator to lead daily production operations at our Wilmers Road site. This is a hands-on, outdoor role, working alongside your team in all weather conditions to ensure our production runs safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

You will supervise a team and be directly involved in production activities such as filling and emptying growing rooms, moving compost, and operating machinery and mobile plant.

This role needs someone who can lead from the front, with effective planning, coordination, and lining up materials to keep production running smoothly. You’ll make sure that the right materials arrive at the right time, so jobs stay on track and delays are avoided. You’ll enjoy working closely with other teams and take time to understand the importance of how production decisions impact the wider business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, train and support the production team on a daily basis

  • Coordinate filling and emptying of growing rooms

  • Oversee movement of compost, materials, and equipment

  • Lead by example with safety, hygiene, and food standards

  • Ensure daily tasks are completed on time and to standard

  • Complete documentation, reporting, and incident follow-up

  • Work closely with the Growing and Compost teams

About You

You’re a practical, hands-on manager who can organise and guide a team to work safely and efficiently. You’re comfortable planning daily tasks, meeting deadlines, and supporting your team with a positive attitude.

You hold a full NZ driver’s licence and are confident working outdoors, doing physical work, and operating machinery (or willing to learn). You’re comfortable with managing systems and completing documentation. Because this position includes outdoor tasks, operating heavy machinery and vehicles, and working at heights, you are expected to embrace the principle that Safety Starts with Me and consistently demonstrate safe practices to help build a strong safety culture.

What You’ll Bring

  • Curiosity to understand how production decisions influence mushroom performance and quality

  • Experience in the primary sector or farming (preferred)

  • A practical, can-do problem-solving mindset and enjoy finding better ways of working

  • Experience in leading, supporting, and developing a team

  • A proactive safety-focus in everything you do

  • Clear and purposeful communication skills

  • Self-motivation with a genuine appetite to learn and grow

  • Willingness to adapt — comfortable with changing tasks and weather, and the curveballs that come with them

  • Strong attention to detail, knowing the small things really matter

The Details

  • Permanent, full-time salaried role

  • Monday to Friday

  • 6am start time (finish time can vary depending on workload requirements)

  • Occasional weekend and public holiday work (penal rates apply)

  • Based in Hornby

  • As an operational manager, this role requires working outdoors every day – rain, hail, or shine!
