Reporting to the Project Director, the role of Project Manager is to plan and manage the execution of multiple contracts via Construction Managers, of varying complexity from initiation through to close out. His / her responsibilities include resource planning, such that the works are delivered safely and efficiently, within budget and on time, without incidents and to the required quality standards. The Project Manager will also support the estimating phase pre-contract award, assisting in interpreting client requirements, developing construction plans, schedules and subcontract work scopes as deemed necessary for our estimation activities. The Project Manager will be professional and courteous with the ambition to build a positive experience for the customer, such that they remain a loyal customer of BMD’s leading to high levels of profitable repeat business.

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop project execution strategies including vendor and subcontractor selection.
  • Establish highly effective construction supervision teams across various sites / multiple contracts.
  • Work in close collaboration with EHS Officers/Manager to establish site safety requirements, execution plans up to and including incident investigation and liaison with customers on near misses, incident reports and taking of statements.
  • Manage multiple client relationships, in a collaborative fashion, to ensure customer loyalty with BMD.
  • Plan of all aspects of the work from initiation through execution and closure, including critical path analysis and work around planning, to prevent project execution slippage.
  • Effective identification and ongoing management of contract risk and opportunities.
  • Oversight of weekly/monthly progress reporting to customer and or their representatives in a timely and professional fashion across multiple contracts.
  • Collaborate with internal functions such as HR, Finance, Commercial, Procurement and Estimating to effect efficient contract execution.
  • Attend and chair internal and client site meetings as necessary to affect a successful outcome for all stakeholders.
  • Oversight of construction managers on internal progress reporting and earned values to ensure accurate forecasting of costs to completion on the works.
  • Liaise closely with commercial team to proactively manage commercial aspects of the contract.
  • Lead the timely resolution of any customer complaint that arises, and identifying any continuous improvement to be implemented.
  • Liaise with resource managers for the mobilization and demobilization of site engineering and craft resources.
  • Liaison with internal and external QA/QC resources to ensure the compliance of our work scope with standards, client specifications and industry requirements.
  • Ensure successful on time final acceptance and takeover of each contract


Education, Training & Experience

  • Degree Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Construction or equivalent
  • Project Management Certificate or Diploma
  • Proficient in suite of Microsoft applications, Powerpoint, Word, Excel, Project, Visio, Primavera is advantageous
  • Completion of Management of Safety in Construction (MSIC) or equivalent
  • Min 10 years relevant work experience
  • Must possess industry experience in construction phase of in pharmaceutical, electronics or oil and gas industry.

  • Contract administration experience including claims management
