Project Resource Teacher (Intern Support Provider- Education Specialist)

POSITION SPECIFICS:

  • Working Location: Educator and Leader Growth and Development 4100 Normal Street, Wing C, San Diego, CA 92103
  • Experience in special education settings; at least two years of service at a priority staffing school preferred; experience providing support for new teachers; site based leadership experience; knowledge of coaching strategies and working with adult learners preferred, experience and strategies for ELL instruction.
  • Job Title: Special Education Intern Support Provider- ESN and/or Mild/Moderate Support Needs mentors and coaches intern teachers assigned to ESN and/or M/M settings in schools throughout the district, following the guidelines established by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing and the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Through a reflective coaching model, the intern support provider offers intensive, individualized support designed to facilitate new teacher growth and student achievement in an urban school setting. The intern support provider mentors, coaches, and guides the intern teacher in fulfilling all professional teaching responsibilities to include implementing district initiatives, curriculum, policies, and reforms. The intern support provider facilitates intern teacher communication and collaboration with district staff and related service providers as applicable. Additionally, the intern support provider collaborates with university supervisors, site administrators, and school staff to facilitate a productive experience for the intern teacher.

Examples of Duties:

The Project Resource Teacher assigned to support Educator and Leader Growth and Development is responsible for providing ongoing guidance and assistance to interns at school sites in:

  • Development and implementation of assessment, teaching and classroom management strategies and materials.
  • Selection and provision of appropriate instructional materials, accommodations, adaptations, and modifications to provide access to instructional programs for students with extensive and/or mild moderate disabilities.
  • Development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Transition Plans (TPs) and/or Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) that comply with federal and state regulations.
  • Collaboration with parents, service providers, district staff and community representatives and other professionals to conduct effective IEP, TP, and/or IFSP meetings.
  • Use of district online platforms and integrated technology for communication, record keeping, and instructional purposes.
  • Daily and weekly planning and co-teaching as applicable.
  • Mastery of the California Teaching Performance Expectations.
  • Completing a teaching performance assessment (CalTPA or edTPA).
  • Promote reflection and improve intern teacher practice through a reflective coaching model: preconference, lesson observation and post conference.
  • Maintain Weekly Outlook Calendar to include site specific appointments, department professional development, and intern program meetings.
  • Participate in ongoing support provider training with Educator and Leader Growth and Development (Teacher Prep and Support and Growth and Development Departments); in addition to keeping current through attendance and participation in district professional learning.
  • Work as a collaborative member of a professional team within the Educator and Leader Growth and Development Department (Teacher Prep and Support and Growth and Development Departments), with other central office departments and out at sites when applicable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Qualified applicants must have a minimum of five years successful teaching experience in special education settings; at least two years of service at a priority staffing school preferred; experience providing support for new teachers; site based leadership experience; knowledge of coaching strategies and working with adult learners preferred, experience and strategies for ELL instruction. Must be Current Contracted Tenured Teacher in district to apply.

Licenses and Other Requirements:

Mild/Mod, Extensive Support Needs and/or Early Childhood Special Education

Examination Process


The examination process will consist of an application screening based on the candidate's education, work history and responses to the supplemental questions. Professional References will be contacted for candidates who are selected to proceed in the examination process. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Candidates selected to proceed in the examination process will be invited to an interview. Applicants who pass the examination process will be placed on an eligible list for a period of one school year. The eligible list will be used to fill vacancies at various school sites.
