Degree in post secondary education in Microbiology, Chemistry, Nutrition or Food Science

3-5 years experience in food manufacturing and quality management systems.

Minimum of 2+ years in FSQA within a food manufacturing environment

In- depth knowledge of HACCP, GLPs and BRCGS standards

Strong working experience with GFSI (SQF, BRC, FSSC22000) certification and audits.

Strong track record at ensuring Good Industrial Practices (GMPs) and hygiene standards, in accordance with the HACCP program.

Experienced at overseeing test scheduling, frequency, methodology and results analysis in coordination with production department.

Experienced at product testing and release of testing requirement and results

Familiar at planning and coordinating BRCGS audits, as well as internal audits.

Experienced at leading HACCP team.

Familiar at leading 3rd party audits (e.g., CFIA, BRC, etc.).

Have led cross-functional team investigations.

Quality Assurance Supervisor-Processing (Perm, FT, Day)

Term: Permanent, Full-Time

Shift: Mon-Fri, Day, 8am starts

Salary: $61,500-$73,055

Direct reports: 5 lab technicians

The Quality Assurance Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring the quality of products and services. He/she mobilizes his/her team to be ambassadors of Good Industrial Practices (GMPs) and factory hygiene standards, while ensuring that the control activities put in place guarantee the safety, integrity and legal compliance of food safety, quality and regulatory requirements.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the implementation of Good Industrial Practices (GMPs) and hygiene standards, in accordance with the HACCP program.
  • Ensure Food safety, authenticity, legality, and quality of food produced, reporting any risk and issues to direct managers/supervisors.
  • Supervise, coach, motivate and lead a laboratory staff
  • Plan and coordinate BRCGS audits, as well as internal audits to assess compliance with standards.
  • Proactively manage non-conformities and complaints, ensuring that corrective actions are implemented quickly.
  • Analyze the results of tests and investigations on quarantined products.
  • Perform the necessary validations to ensure compliance with HACCP standards and the CFIA program.
  • Recommend continuous improvements and identify critical points related to food safety.
  • Help to create a “food safety and quality culture” in the plants.
  • Ensure lab is compliant with all company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Implements, maintains, and improves the management system of the lab.
  • Responsible for test scheduling, frequency, methodology and results analysis in coordination with production department.
  • Coordinates with third party accredited laboratory for testing requirement and results.
  • Ensure product testing and release are completed on a timely manner.
  • Ensure government regulations and customer requirements are met prior to the release of product.
  • Set-up of new products in lab related documents.
  • Authority to take immediate actions to control affected or potentially affected product when deviations occur.
  • Ensure that established laboratory methods, analysis and interpretation of results are regularly communicated to plant management and appropriate plant personnel.
  • Ensure that changes in product specification and programs/standards are clearly communicated and implemented.
  • Provides Certificate of analysis to customers.
  • Take the lead on conducting traceability, mass balance and mock recall exercises
  • Work with a cross-functional team in investigating and resolving customer complaints.
  • Responsible supervising R&D related activities such as plant trials and establishment of new product shelf life
  • Purchasing and inventory of all testing, lab and equipment supplies.
  • Ensure lab equipment calibration are always in good standing, proper calibration of lab equipment’s.
  • Verify Lab Records/SOPs to ensures all required documentation is completed accurately and on time and records are filed as to easily trace back product information in case of recall or Audit as it relates to Standards Council of Canada, GLPs, GMP, HACCP, BRCGS programs and company requirements.
  • Informs maintenance / Supervisor of any equipment malfunctions or any product issue.
  • Attend training and be competent in performing relevant duties.
  • Perform on-site validation as requested.
  • Back-up to QA Technicians and QA Manager, when needed.
  • Perform other duties as requested by managers.

Qualification & Experiences:

· Post secondary education in Microbiology, Chemistry, Nutrition or Food Science would be an asset.

· Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in food quality and safety, ideally in the agri-food sector.

· Supervisory experience 2+ years in FSQA within a food manufacturing environment, preferably in a unionized setting.

· In- depth knowledge of HACCP, GLPs and BRCGS standards.

· Proficiency in computer tools (MS Office Suite, SAP or equivalent).

· Ability to manage and build a team independently.

· Demonstrated ability to forge partnerships with multiple cross-functional areas, (i.e. Operations, Maintenance, Sanitation) to enhance efficiency and productivity.

· Proven leadership abilities.

· Detail and results oriented.

· Strong ability to communicate (i.e. read, speak and write) in English.

· Proficient in MS Office tools (Excel and Word).
