Role Overview
We are seeking for a Research Associate Purification and Analytical Chemistry to work with our team in Montreal. Reporting to a senior scientist, the candidate will execute, complete, and report on compound purification and characterization projects to support the company’s research and development initiatives, as well contributing to laboratory operations, method development, and implementation of new analytical techniques.
Key responsibilities
· Perform preparative purifications of small molecules, in particular libraries of macrocycles, in milligram to gram scale, to support internal and collaborative drug discovery and development efforts.
· Operation, maintenance of purification and analytical instrumentation, including UPLC-MS and preparative HPLC, within the company, as well as troubleshooting and organizing repairs when necessary.
· Conduct analytical studies and testing of small molecules to support company’s R&D efforts.
· Development of new methods for the purification and analysis of small molecules and intermediates, as well as optimization and improvement of existing methods.
· Sample preparation for and execution of analytical studies and quality control testing with timely reporting of results.
· Isolation and characterization of final target molecules to confirm or determine identity including storage and cataloguing of these materials.
· Maintenance of the company’s inventory system for synthesized compounds, intermediates, and building blocks, including externally purchased materials.
· Performing appropriate tests to measure the physico-chemical properties of individual compounds.
· Assistance with assessment and incorporation of new techniques and instrumentation into the R&D work flow.
· Preparation of purification protocols, analytical method documentation, and standard operating procedures.
· Presentation of results internally and, if necessary, externally.
· Planning work and completion of tasks on schedule.
· Maintain up-to-date records for all work performed and ensure a safe workplace.
· Comply with all applicable laboratory safety and operational regulations and procedures.
Experience and skills required:
· M.Sc. in chemistry or B. Sc. in chemistry with 3 years of relevant experience required.
· Expertise in current, particularly HPLC-based, purification and analytical methods appropriate for diverse small organic molecules.
· Ability to work flexibly and circumspectly in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
· Computer proficiency including standard office programs, use of chemical structure drawing programs, presentation preparation, online research tools and database searching; experience with electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) software is beneficial.
