Position Summary:

The RN Risk and Compliance Manager at Athena Medtech is a critical leadership position responsible for comprehensively managing and overseeing the organization's risk management and compliance programs. Key Responsibilities:

  • Risk Management:
  • Proactively identify, assess, and prioritize potential clinical, operational, and financial risks across all departments and service lines.
  • Lead thorough investigations and meticulously document all incidents, near misses, and patient complaints, ensuring timely and appropriate resolution.
  • Conduct comprehensive Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEA) to identify underlying causes of incidents and implement preventative measures.
  • Collaborate closely with legal counsel on potential liability and malpractice claims, providing clinical insight and documentation support.
  • Maintain robust incident reporting systems, analyze trends, and develop evidence-based risk mitigation strategies and action plans.
  • Compliance Oversight:
  • Continuously monitor, interpret, and disseminate changes in federal, state, and local healthcare regulations, including but not limited to CMS, HIPAA, OSHA, and other relevant accreditation standards.
  • Develop, implement, and rigorously update comprehensive compliance policies, procedures, and protocols across the organization.
  • Design and conduct regular internal audits and assessments to ensure unwavering adherence to regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • Develop and lead engaging and effective compliance training programs for all levels of staff, fostering a culture of ethical conduct and regulatory awareness.
  • Serve as a primary liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, investigations, and surveys.
  • Quality and Safety Enhancement:
  • Actively support and contribute to organizational accreditation efforts (e.g., The Joint Commission, DNV, CMS).
  • Participate in and lead interdisciplinary performance improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety, care outcomes, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate strategically with clinical and administrative leadership to integrate risk and compliance principles into daily operations and long-term planning.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
  • Maintain thorough, accurate, and confidential documentation of all risk management activities, compliance investigations, audits, and training programs.
  • Prepare and present regular, insightful risk and compliance reports to senior leadership, relevant committees, and the Board of Directors, outlining key findings, trends, and recommendations.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Arizona (AZ) is required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., MSN, MPH, MHA, Healthcare Administration) is preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive clinical nursing experience is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of dedicated experience in healthcare risk management, compliance, and/or quality improvement is required.
  • Experience within a hospital, ambulatory care network, or long-term care setting is preferred.
  • Certifications (Preferred):
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM)
  • Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC)
  • Certification in Patient Safety (CPPS)
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Profound and in-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and best practices.
  • Exceptional analytical, investigative, and complex problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
