About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced clinical pharmacist to join our team at Waikato Hospital as a Senior Cardiology Pharmacist. This is a new role within our service, created to strengthen clinical pharmacy leadership, support our expanding cardiac services, and ensure consistent, highquality medicines management. The role also offers the opportunity to provide pharmacist prescriber services within cardiology.

As a senior member of the clinical pharmacy team, you will provide leadership and mentorship to pharmacists across the cardiology, cardiothoracic & vascular surgery cluster, support ongoing service development, and drive quality improvement activities. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to optimise medicines management and improve patient outcomes. This is a unique opportunity to help shape and grow this service in a tertiary hospital environment while working within a supportive, patientfocused team.

The salary for this position will be $111,240 $117,420 + Kiwisaver, covered by the Te Whatu Ora/PSA Allied, Public Health, Scientific & Technical Collective Agreement

The Health New Zealand Waikato Pharmacy Service provides essential pharmacy services to Waikato Hospital and rural hospitals, as well as tertiary advisory and support services to the Te Manawa Taki region. Our team is vital to the effective operation of healthcare, upholding the highest standards in pharmaceutical supply, medicines safety, and clinical services. Waikato Hospital is a major regional hospital in Hamilton and is a leading tertiary teaching hospital located in Hamilton, New Zealand, serving as the regional hub for the Midland area, which includes the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Tairawhiti, and Taranaki districts. About you

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Hold or be eligible to hold a current Annual Practising Certificate with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand.
  • At least 3-5 years of post-registration pharmacy experience.
  • Previous experience in cardiology and/or a minimum of 3 years in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Experience in mentoring, or supervising pharmacists.
  • A current New Zealand drivers licence.
  • Competency in te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or a commitment to starting this journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
  • Experience in upholding Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
