Senior Specialist – External Strategic Engagement

Are you ready to amplify the voice of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa on a national stage? We’re looking for a Senior Specialist – External Strategic Engagement to lead high-impact communications that shape public perception, strengthen relationships, and champion kaupapa Māori.

In this role, you will:

  • Drive strategic communications that reflect Te Kaupapa Matua and align with Te Pae Tawhiti 2030 (TWoA Strategic Plan 2030).
  • Manage media relations and craft narratives that influence education and policy discourse.
  • Build strong connections with Ministers, media, and sector partners.
  • Deliver campaigns and curate success stories that showcase our impact.
  • Prepare ministerial briefings, speeches, and executive-level messaging.
  • Ensure cultural integrity and Te Ao Māori perspectives in all external communications.

Mōu | About you

You’re a strategic communicator with:

  • A tertiary qualification in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or Political Science (postgraduate preferred).
  • Extensive experience in senior communications or media roles within complex organisations.
  • Proven ability to manage reputation and public positioning in high-profile environments.
  • Experience preparing executive and ministerial briefings.
  • Confidence engaging with media and stakeholders in high-stakes settings.
  • Strong understanding of te ao Māori and kaupapa-based organisations.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills across platforms.

You’ll also bring strategic thinking, composure under pressure, cultural competency, and integrity in all engagements.
