About the Role

As a Sous Chef, you will support the Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operations, ensuring food quality, consistency, and efficiency at all times. You will help plan staff schedules, oversee ingredient preparation and storage, and train kitchen team members on recipes, techniques, and safety standards. In the Head Chef’s absence, you will take charge of supervising the entire kitchen, resolving operational issues, and maintaining high culinary standards. With strong leadership and hands-on skills, you will play a key role in delivering excellent dishes while keeping the kitchen organized, safe, and well-stocked.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Plan efficient staff schedules to ensure smooth kitchen operations
  • Train staff regularly on their duties and responsibilities per shift
  • Conduct ongoing training for new and existing staff
  • Supervise overall kitchen operations in the absence of the Head Chef, including food preparation and cleanliness
  • Ensure that kitchen staff follow recipes and cooking procedures accurately
  • Oversee proper storage and organization of ingredients and kitchen supplies
  • Plan daily food preparation to meet sales demand adequately
  • Inspect food presentation and cooking methods for accuracy and consistency
  • Monitor ingredient ordering from local markets and the central kitchen
  • Troubleshoot and resolve kitchen-related issues promptly
  • Instruct and support staff on inventory checks, ingredient ordering, cooking techniques, toppings, and other kitchen tasks to ensure consistency
  • Provide support to all kitchen positions as needed
  • Manage ordering from suppliers effectively
  • Minimize food waste
  • Maintain and ensure kitchen equipment is in good working condition and used appropriately
  • Follow instructions from the Head Chef and support their responsibilities

Required Skills:

  • Strong culinary skills and ability to ensure food quality
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to manage and motivate a kitchen team
  • Solid understanding of kitchen operations and ingredient management

Specific Requirements for the Position:

  • At least 2+ years of kitchen experience
  • High sense of responsibility and ability to work under pressure
  • Knowledge of kitchen hygiene and safety standards
  • Good physical health; able to work shifts and on public holidays
