Who we are

At AgResearch, our purpose is to use science to enhance the value, productivity, and profitability of New Zealand’s pastoral, agri-food, and agri-technology sector value chains to contribute to economic growth and beneficial environmental and social outcomes for New Zealand. We are committed to the knowledge system of mātauranga Māori on equal footing with Western science and existing structures, that have helped support positive change in farming practices and food production in Aotearoa. .

The role and opportunity

AgResearch is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated students to join us for a Summer Internship program. These are aimed at students who are currently undertaking tertiary study and will run from 20 November 2023 until 9 February 2024. This is an exciting opportunity for you to experience what your professional career at a Crown Research Institute could be like - to gain exposure to the Science community, developing skills, and creating connections that will set you up for a bright career. This role is based in Lincoln, Canterbury. .

The Project

Working within a busy communications and marketing team and linked closely with our Māori Research and Partnership Group, you will work as our Māori Communications Advisor. Some examples of the work that you will be doing is development of an AgResearch podcast, preparing for annual field-days, updating kaupapa Māori content on our website, interviewing and writing stories on our summer internship programme and assisting in the development of a social media campaign., aimed at communicating our research to Māori. .

Your Ideal Background

  • Currently studying towards a degree in Māori Strategic Communications or Masters in Strategic Communications or general Communications with an interest in communicating with/to Māori.
  • Sound understanding of tikanga Māori and te ao Māori is preferred.
  • Availability to travel to other locations for hui and wānanga.
  • Demonstrates safe workplace behaviour by taking all practicable steps to ensure own and other’s safety in the workplace
