What We're Looking For:

We are hiring for our Summer 2024 three-month Tech internship program. Our internship program has historically been a critical component of the company's growth since its inception. Now reimagined, the internship program will provide innovative, project-based opportunities for interns to help solve real business challenges. The program will culminate with all interns presenting a final project that can serve as a portion of their interview for a full-time position.

Interns will support their designated business function, have unprecedented access to executive leaders to learn the business, career training and coaching, a designated mentor, and the opportunity to immerse themselves in 2U's rich culture and employee-led Business Resource Networks.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

• Be part of a team who will design, develop, deploy, and support scalable software systems
• Collaborate with Product Management, Business Analysts and other tech team stakeholders to understand business problems and identify solutions
• Contribute to the engineering team by leveraging your skills in technical direction, priority setting, and execution/delivery.
• Build and maintain operationally viable solutions throughout its life cycle.
• Commit to owning your code and supporting the customer facing environment

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

• A recent graduate with a degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, B Eng, B Tech (Eng or IT), B Com IS, BBus Sci, Informatics, Information Systems Management or related fields
• Experience/exposure with/to web technologies like HTML, CSS, Javascript, and RESTful APIs would be a plus, as well as experience/exposure with/to front-end frameworks would be advantageous
• An understanding of, and experience using, relational database systems and SQL (Sequel) (Mysql, Postgres, MSSQL)
• Exposure to cloud computing environments like GCP, AWS, Azure (preferably AWS)
• Knowledge of building data pipelines (ETL/ELT processes), bonus points for experience with Airflow, S3, DBT
• An understanding of version control (git/github, gitlab) and CI/CD pipelines
• Exposure to OO-languages/frameworks such as Python, Node.Js, or Ruby
• Extra points if you share an active Github profile or side project you're proud of!
• Ability to problem-solve, drive projects with loosely defined requirements, communicate with stakeholders, and learn from both success and failure
• Values teamwork, collaboration, and an evolving start-up atmosphere

Other Attributes That Will Help You In This Role:

• As a current final year student, your studies are expected to be completed by the end of 2023 (please note that your application requires submission of your academic transcript).
• Must have less than one year of work experience.
• Available to start 01 February 2024
• Ability to commute to our office located at 358 Victoria Road, Salt River, Cape Town.
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• An interest in the education space is preferred
