The Opportunity:
McElhanney is seeking an experienced and proactive Technical Recruiter to join our Talent Acquisition team. Reporting to the Talent Acquisition Lead, you will lead the development and execution of our Early Talent Program, drive intern and new graduate hiring initiatives, and build strong partnerships with top engineering schools across Canada. Your work will directly shape McElhanney’s future talent pipeline in a competitive and evolving market.

While this role will initially focus on our Early Talent Program, the successful candidate will also apply their technical recruitment expertise to source and recruit experienced professionals for our various technical disciplines as needed.

This position involves extensive travel for campus events, hiring activities, internal team meetings, and other events. The candidate must be comfortable with this requirement and must have a valid driver’s license.

What You’ll do:
Develop and Implement Early Talent Strategy
  • Design and execute a comprehensive strategy to strengthen our existing early talent program to attract high-potential, diverse candidates from universities, colleges, and technical programs.
  • Establish sustainable early talent talent pipelines aligned with long-term organizational growth and talent needs.
  • Partner with hiring teams to understand talent needs and critical competencies for their teams, ensuring early talent programs meet future skill requirements.
Campus Recruiting and Hiring
  • Plan and manage campus recruitment initiatives, including scholarships, internships, co-op programs, and graduate hiring.
  • Build strong relationships with university career centers, professors, student organizations, and alumni networks in relevant technical fields.
  • Actively participate in campus events such as career fairs, presentations, information sessions, networking events, and interviews.
  • Manage the full recruitment lifecycle for campus hires, from sourcing and screening to interviewing and offer negotiations.
Collaboration with Hiring Managers & Internal Teams
  • Partner with hiring managers to understand team objectives and technical requirements, delivering a seamless hiring experience.
  • Facilitate regular communication and feedback loops with stakeholders to continuously improve hiring processes.
Candidate Experience & Recruitment Marketing
  • Champion an exceptional candidate experience throughout the recruitment process.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for McElhanney, effectively promoting our EVP, culture, and career opportunities.
  • Collaborate with our Marketing & Communications teams to create engaging recruitment marketing content for job postings, social media, and campus materials.
Recruitment Metrics & Reporting
  • Prepare and analyze key early talent recruitment metrics such as campus engagement rates, application-to-hire ratios, time-to-fill, and diversity representation.
  • Track conversion rates from internships and co-op programs to full-time hires to measure program effectiveness.
  • Provide regular insights on early talent trends and program performance, using data to optimize future campus recruitment initiatives.
Adaptability to Hiring Demands
  • Be flexible and adapt to evolving hiring needs across early career and experienced talent pools.
  • Be prepared to pivot recruitment strategies and manage urgent or shifting demands, including extensive travel for campus events and internal meetings.
  • Balance multiple recruitment priorities and timelines, ensuring all hiring initiatives are executed effectively and on time.
What You’ll bring:
Experience:
  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience in technical recruiting, including early talent programs, campus hiring, and recruitment for experienced technical roles
  • Previous experience recruiting for civil engineering/geomatics technical fields is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the engineering consulting industry and talent market.
  • Proven success in managing complex hiring processes and high-volume recruitment programs.
  • Skilled in creative sourcing techniques using LinkedIn Recruiter, job boards, social media, etc.,
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain partnerships with universities, career services, and industry professionals.
  • Experience tracking, analyzing, and reporting recruitment metrics (e.g., time-to-fill, conversion rates, diversity representation, and ROI) to inform data-driven decisions and optimize hiring strategies.
Education:
  • A diploma or degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field.
Skills & Attributes:
  • Strong knowledge of recruitment processes, sourcing techniques, and employer branding strategies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence candidates and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency with applicant tracking systems (ATS), LinkedIn Recruiter, and other HRIS tools.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented, with strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships internally and externally.
  • Proactive and innovative thinker who thrives in dynamic environments and adapts quickly to change.
  • Results-driven with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes.

What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $95,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
