Break It Down is a leader in sustainable waste management, specializing in windrow composting and recycling services. We’re seeking a skilled Equipment Operator and Box Truck Driver to join our team in a dynamic, hybrid role that combines heavy equipment operation with box truck driving for urgent “hot shot” client services.

Role Description:

As a Warehouse Operator, you’ll play a critical role in our composting and recycling operations. This position involves operating heavy equipment to manage compost piles and materials, as well as driving a 26’ box truck for time-sensitive client deliveries. Key responsibilities include:

• Operating equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, CAT Backhoes, and Hitachi ZW160-7 Wheel Loaders to turn compost piles, move compost, and load/unload trucks.
• Unloading cardboard bales from flatbed trailers, storage areas, and baling machines, and loading them into dry van trailers for wholesale.
• Driving a 26’ box truck to complete “hot shot” client services, filling urgent service appointments outside our full-time haulers’ routes.
• Performing manual labor tasks, including lifting, pushing, and pulling heavy materials, as part of the box truck and hot shot duties.
• Conducting pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure safety and compliance.
• Communicating effectively with dispatch and operations teams to coordinate tasks and adapt to changing schedules.
• Using a personal smartphone for navigation, communication via Slack, and submitting accurate service documentation.

Requirements:

• Valid Driver’s License held for a minimum of 2 years, with no DWIs/DUIs in the last 3 years.
• 2+ years of verifiable 26’ box truck driving experience (required by auto insurance).
• 2+ years of experience operating heavy equipment (forklifts, skid steers, backhoes, or wheel loaders) in a trucking or composting yard.
• Ability to perform repetitive, labor-intensive tasks, including lifting, pushing, and pulling heavy materials.
• 23+ years of age (required by auto insurance).
• Reliable transportation to and from work.
• Personal smartphone for phone calls, navigation, and work communication via Slack.
