What is the opportunity?

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Data Engineer (Co-op) to join our Fixed Income Performance team at RBC Global Asset Management. This co-op position will be integral to supporting our data engineering, automation, and performance analysis initiatives.

What will you do?

• Support the automation of complex data transformation tasks to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Construct and optimize SQL queries to support various processes and reporting needs.
• Assist in engineering new database tables to streamline data management and reporting processes.
• Develop and maintain Python scripts to automate performance analyses and reporting.
• Build and maintain scripts that fetch data from various databases and create comprehensive charts for client-facing teams and portfolio managers.
• Work closely with the Senior Performance Analyst and other team members to support various projects and initiatives.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

• Currently completing an undergraduate degree in relevant disciplines (Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or other quantitative related discipline)
• Strong programming skills in SQL and Python.
• Experience using Pandas in Python.
• Analytically skilled, creative problem solver with ability to produce, analyze and manipulate large sets of data.
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Strong communication, teamwork, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Nice to Have

• A second focus in Finance, Accounting, or business relevant program.
• A basic understanding of fixed Income securities, rate of return calculations, and awareness of security types across multiple asset classes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
