DEFINITION
To perform a wide variety of confidential and complex administrative work in directing the budgetary and financial management activities for an assigned department; to participate in assigned administrative processes, procedures and programs; and to provide information and assistance to the public regarding departmental programs and services.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from upper level administrative or management staff. Exercises direct supervision over technical and clerical staff.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES-Essential responsibility
And duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Participate in assigned administrative support functions including budget preparation and administration; participate in various specialized department programs; attend and participate in department or division meetings and events.
Provide highly responsible administrative staff assistance involving conducting research for a wide range of municipal policies involving organization, procedures, finance and services.
Participate in the preparation and administration of assigned budget(s); maintain and monitor appropriate budgeting controls; prepare purchase requisitions and process purchase orders for payment.
Knowledge of:
Generally accounting principles, practices and procedures and how they are applied to municipal accounting situations.
Mathematics and statistics used in complex accounting work. Principles and practices of budget administration.
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Modern office procedures, methods and computer software and hardware. Basic principles and procedures of financial record keeping.
Knowledge of:
Policies and procedures of the assigned department.
Experience:
Three years of increasingly responsible accounting and budgeting experience preferably within a local government environment, including one year of supervisory responsibility.
Training:
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in finance, accounting, business administration or a related field.
