JOIN OUR TEAM AS AN INMATE CHAPLAIN!
The Inmate Chaplain is a Civilian position involving facilitating free exercise of religion by all inmates. Provide individual and crisis counseling to inmates relevant to their spiritual needs, bereavement, personal problems or institutional adjustment needs. Teach religious programs, recruit religious volunteers and act as a liaison to the faith community.
Essential Job Functions
Providing inmates with materials and information to support their free exercise of religion; communicating effectively with the public, volunteers, and inmates; attending community meetings to increase awareness of inmate program volunteer opportunities, recruiting additional volunteers of various denominations and faiths, and seeking out new program opportunities; assisting as a liaison to religious organizations; teaching religious programs; coordination of faith dorm programming; connecting inmates with faith-based programs that can assist them upon release; providing timely responses to inmate requests; delivering religious material to inmates as needed; incorporate excellent customer service skills, especially in the triage and management of crises in the practice of pastoral care. Working with Inmate Programs Supervisor to process, screen, orient, and schedule religious inmate programs volunteers; maintaining statistics for monthly and annual reports; conducting interviews with inmates requesting religious accommodations, special religious diets, or entrance into the faith dorm; completing special projects as directed by supervisor. Providing inmates with materials and information to support their free exercise of religion; communicating effectively with the public, volunteers, and inmates; attending community meetings to increase awareness of inmate program volunteer opportunities, recruiting additional volunteers of various denominations and faiths, and seeking out new program opportunities; assisting as a liaison to religious organizations; teaching religious programs; coordination of faith dorm programming; connecting inmates with faith-based programs that can assist them upon release; providing timely responses to inmate requests; delivering religious material to inmates as needed; incorporate excellent customer service skills, especially in the triage and management of crises in the practice of pastoral care. Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of computer system for JMS.
- Knowledge of geographic locations.
- Knowledge of Corrections and County procedures and policies.
- Knowledge of Human Diversity awareness.
- Knowledge of Prison Elimination Act.
- Knowledge of Practices of major world religions.
- Ability to clearly speak, understand, read, and legibly write in English.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff members and the general public.
- Ability to operate a personal computer using various software.
- Ability to use independent judgement and make technical and professional decisions.
- Ability to plan, organize and bring assignments to completion.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Three (3) years of experience in a pastoral capacity required. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. CJIS Security Awareness Certification required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Unescorted CJIS clearance as authorized by FDLE is required.
