Probationary Rate: $31.61 per hour
Full Time Rate: $34.77 per hour

Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position is being offered as a full-time permanent staff complement to the Transit Department (Maintenance Division). Duties will include but not be restricted to:

  • Work is performed in accordance with established practice and procedures. Works primarily under the direction and guidance of the Manager, Maintenance Supervisor and Senior Maintenance Staff.
  • Service buses in accordance with the Transit Service’s Department’s preventative maintenance program.
  • Provide assistance to Transit Maintenance Staff by performing the non-licensed repairs on vehicles e.g. lights, lenses, wiper blades, fareboxes, etc.
  • Assisting mechanics on “two people” jobs.
  • Change tires when required.
  • Delivery and return of buses as required by on service change-offs.
  • Pick-up of vehicle parts as needed.
  • May be required to repair and/or clean bus shelters and other Transit Services Department assets.
  • May be required to install/repair bus stop signs.
  • May be required to perform the duties of a Utility Cleaner, as the need arises.
  • Work is on a shift basis covering a seven day per week operation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Grade 12 education.
  • Must show proof of mechanical aptitude or have Transit experience in mechanical maintenance activities.
  • A general knowledge of the mechanical make- up of a bus is a requirement.
  • Must have a valid Wheel Installer Certificate or Commercial Vehicle Wheel Service Certificate or successfully obtain as a condition of employment.
  • Must have a valid certificate to operate a forklift or successfully obtain as a condition of employment.
  • Must have a valid TSSA Municipal Fuel Attendant Certificate or successfully obtain as a condition of employment.
  • Must be resourceful and have initiative to work with little supervision.
  • Must hold (or have the ability to obtain as a condition of employment) and provide a copy of a valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver's License Class B or C with a Z air brake endorsement and a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behaviour. Note: Applicants with 6 or more points are ineligible for consideration. The successful applicant, who is a new hire, will be required to provide the Corporation with a current drivers abstract (no older than 30 days) prior to assuming the position.
