Paediatrics Fellow

The Department of Paediatrics at Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua MidCentral is seeking interest for a Paediatric Fellow. Applications are also open to overseas trained doctors with an equivalent qualification.

Start date: 2 February 2027

About the Role

This is a 12‑month fixed‑term position with a negotiable start date. The role is ideally suited to a final‑year Advanced Trainee in General Paediatrics (RACP).

The position is accredited for 12 months of Core Training, including:

• 6 months General Paediatrics
• 6 months Rural Paediatrics
• 6 months Community / Developmental Paediatrics

(Accreditation applies across the training programme rather than sequential rotation duration.)

The role includes a defined outpatient clinic workload and participation in the SMO on‑call roster, providing excellent scope for consolidating both clinical leadership and advanced paediatric practice.

Clinical Responsibilities

You will participate in a 1:9 acute on‑call roster, covering the full spectrum of acute paediatrics. This includes oversight of a 14‑bed Level 2A Neonatal Unit, caring for infants from 28 weeks' gestation ( 1000 g).

The service is well supported, with dedicated Paediatric RMOs on site at all times, ensuring safe and sustainable clinical delivery.

In addition to acute and neonatal responsibilities, you will enjoy a varied outpatient workload, providing paediatric care across both hospital and community settings.
