School Age Summer Program Assistant Educator

Position: Assistant Educator – School Age Summer Program

Reports To: School Age Administrator(s)

Position Purpose: The Assistant Educator will demonstrate competence and dedication to the development of programs and to the care and education of school aged children. All aspects of the Assistant Educator position will be performed while working within the framework of the vision, mission and value statements and the policies and procedures of Milestones Children’s Centre, the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, the Child Care Centre Licensing Manual and How Does Learning Happen?.

Job Description:

• Demonstrate an understanding of Milestones' Policies and Procedures.
• Work as part of a team and share responsibilities with others to develop and implement program plans which are developmentally appropriate and inclusive of all children.
• Implement a variety of positive and consistent approaches towards behaviour guidance which are consistent with the policies, practices and philosophy of MCC.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to the position through attendance, punctuality and enthusiasm for work.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 18 years of age (licensing requirement under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014)
• Proven experience and genuine enjoyment working with children ages 4-12
• Own transportation
• Reliable, outgoing team member
• Criminal Reference Check (vulnerable sector) within the last 6 months
• Standard First Aid & Infant/Child CPR-C
• up-to-date MMR and tetanus immunizations
• Minimum education requirement: completion of Secondary School
• RECE, CYW/CYC, Recreation and Leisure Services, Bachelor of Education (registered with OCT) preferred
• Preference will be given to candidates who are available for potential employment opportunities beyond the summer months

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 hours per day (plus 2 additional hours of prep time per month). Must be available between the hours of 6:45am and 6:00pm

Position status: this is currently a vacant position made available for the operation of the School Age Summer Program

Potential for employment in a casual capacity available prior to the start of the contract.

Benefits:

• 2 paid personal days

Orientation: June 8, 15, 22 and 29th

Contract Start/End Date: July 2 – August 28, 2026

Minimum Starting Rate: $21.04/hour, plus $1.00/hour of community provided wage enhancement on all hours worked, plus $2.08/hour of provincially provided wage enhancement. Starting rate is determined by experience and education. Note: meetings, Professional Learning time, and orientation are not eligible for provincial wage enhancement.
