Daycare Chef

We are seeking to hire a Daycare Chef!

Light of the World is an innovative quality childcare centre focusing on the holistic development of children and quality care. We are a nonprofit organization providing high-quality programs for infants, toddlers, preschool, and kindergarten age groups.

We are seeking qualified, dedicated, and passionate educators who will be responsible for educating, stimulating, influencing, and caring for the children in their classroom environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and prepare nutritional meals in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), in consultation with the Centre Supervisor.
  • Cook meals and find recipes, adhering to allergy and dietary restrictions requirements.
  • Prepare suitable menu substitutions for children with allergies and individual dietary requirements
  • Ensure adequate supplies are available to meet daily menu plan requirements
  • Responsible for removal of food and collection of plates and utensils at each scheduled meal
  • Wash and sanitize all dishes, utensils and put dishes away for all scheduled meals
  • Prepare and serve daily lunches and snacks for children enrolled at childcare centre
  • Responsible for posting the menus, and substitutes if made during the day
  • Responsible for ensuring all Individual Anaphylaxis Plans (IAP) allergies and food restriction are posted in the kitchen, are up to date and accurate. All IAPs must be understood and strictly adhered to
  • Maintain health and safety records
  • Operate and maintain kitchen according to Public Health inspection requirements
  • Ability to incorporate light housekeeping duties in daily routines
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Food Handling and Preparation
  • Health and Safety Certificate
  • Prior experience preparing meals in a business or institutional setting will be an asset
  • Understanding and working knowledge of current Public Health Guidelines and Canadian Food Guide
  • Experience in cooking for large groups
  • Excellent communication and written skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Social and multicultural sensitivity
  • Medical required – including TB (two stages) 6 months current to hiring date
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check 6 months current to hiring date
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR, level C
  • Able to work Monday to Friday.

This role entails:

  • Standing for long periods of time.
  • Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Repeat the same movements.
  • Walk or run for long periods of time.
  • Bend or twist their body.
  • Carry heavy boxes, weighing between 10 to 25 lbs., occurs regularly. There is an occasional requirement to lift or move objects weighing over 50 lbs.

This position requires flexibility in hours of work to support service delivery and hours of operation.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.50-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week

  • Cooking: 1 year (required)
