About the Role

You will assist the Electrical Engineering team with data gathering, formatting and analysis of hydro generating plant ancillary systems in order to develop recommendations on the optimisation of these systems. You will participate in a team of engineers accountable for a Class 4 overhaul on a large hydrogenator. This is a great opportunity to get firsthand experience in various engineering initiatives related to generators, transformers, switchgear, control systems and electrical protection.


Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering data to determine possible engineering solutions. Present this data in a usable format for effective analysis.
  • Being part of an engineering team performing designs for electrical and control system upgrades
  • Opportunity to gain exposure to hydro generators and their ancillary systems by working closely with the electrical and mechanical engineering teams responsible for hydro generators during a Class 4 overhaul.
  • Provision of 2 weekly progress reports to the mentor within the engineering team.
  • Provision of a final detailed report outlining the processes, activities, and outcomes of each of the assigned tasks.

Education and Experience

  • Have completed/near completion of 2nd year of Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree (High Voltage and Machines subjects will be an advantage)
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbally.
  • Keen to learn with a positive attitude and willingness to contribute.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook).
  • A New Zealand driver's license will be beneficial for this role.
  • Ability to work away from home during hydro plant outages
