Job Description

Your Role
We’re excited to be offering an internship for an aspiring Electronics Engineer to join us in our modern, spacious office in Dunedin’s warehouse precinct this summer. You’ll be joining our Hardware group and working on PowerLab, our state-of-the-art platform for life science data acquisition. Our development work is done using Altium Designer among others, but don’t worry if you’re not familiar with these yet. You will be given all the training you need, and paired with a mentor who will show you the ropes. By the end of your internship you will have contributed to the PowerLab product, and your work will be shipped to ADInstruments’ customers. Working with our team you’ll enjoy flexible work hours, and a range of social events. An internship with us will get your foot in the door of the tech industry.

The Project

The PowerLab C High Channel Count Analogue DAQ project aims to expand our range of PowerLab C data acquisition devices to include options with 8 or more high performance, low-noise analogue inputs. As our customers' research increases in complexity, we want to support their need to record more signals. This project involves understanding low-noise analogue electronic circuits & data acquisition techniques and using that knowledge to design a front end module printed circuit board (PCB). The outcome will be hardware devices which make it easier for customers to perform the data acquisition they need to conduct their research.

The Team
We value diversity of all kinds, and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team where we learn from each other. Our team is collaborative and curious and love working on new, innovative changes to our products. You’ll be joining a team who love to deliver value to our customers regularly. We’re excited to welcome you this summer and introduce you to the ADInstruments culture of passionate people who love science, learning and creating world-class products.

The Business
ADInstruments creates innovative software and hardware solutions for life science researchers and educators. With a team of 60 in Dunedin and almost 200 globally, we have customers world-wide and are a leader in our field.

Skills and Experience
This internship is open to students who are currently studying, or have just completed, a tertiary qualification in Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field. We are an Agile development team, so you should feel comfortable working and contributing within a group context, sharing ideas, solving problems and working towards a common goal.

We’re excited about you because you’ll bring:
You will currently be studying, or have completed study less than 12 months ago, a tertiary qualification in Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field
Experience with PCB design software (Altium Designer preferred) and circuit simulation tools
Some knowledge of, and a desire to learn, the following skills and tools:
Working in an Agile development team
Designing high performance low-noise analogue circuits
Simulating performance of electronic circuits
Schematic capture and PCB layout
Designing and creating a solution based on a customer problem
Ability to work well in a group, share ideas and problem-solve
A considerate, pragmatic and organised approach to your work

These skills aren’t a requirements checklist. If you have only some of the above but would also bring something additional to our team, we’d love to talk!
This paid, full-time internship will run from mid-November 2023 to late-January 2024.

Advertised until:
Oct. 18, 2023
