Canadian National Railway Company (CN) is looking for a highly motivated person to fulfill a full-time (40h/week) Intern, Data Scientist position in enter Montreal, QC for winter 2023 (January – April).


Job Summary

The Intern, Data Scientist is responsible for working with CN’s Data Science and Machine Learning Operations (MLops) teams to assist with the collection, analysis, and interpretation of large data sets. The position ensures automation and consistency across big data for the Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) model training.

Major Responsibilities

  • Clean and manipulate data using Pandas and NumPy
  • Create visualizations and reports using Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, Power BI
  • Conduct statistical analysis using SciPy
  • Develop and test predictive models using scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and Keras
  • Conduct code reviews and ensure coding standards

Requirements

  • Strong skills in programming languages such as Python
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools
  • Strong understanding of statistical and ML concepts and algorithms such as linear and logistic regression, decision trees, random forests, gradient boosting, and neural networks
  • Knowledge of PySpark and distributed computing*
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly and effectively
  • Applies critical thinking
  • Communicates with impact
  • Solves problems to create value
  • Experience in Active Learning, Semi-Supervised Learning, and Few-Shot Learning algorithms*

Education

  • Working toward a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), ML or a related field of study
  • Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
