The Organisation
The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) works with cities worldwide to
promote transport solutions that reduce traffic congestion, air pollution, and greenhouse
emissions while improving urban livability and economic opportunity. ITDP is a not-for-profit
organization with its headquarters in New York City. ITDP works in South Africa, Tanzania,
Uganda, Kenya, India, China, Indonesia, Brazil, Mexico, and the United States.

Since 2021, ITDP in India is represented in India by ITDP Pvt Ltd and works with governments,
multilateral agencies, and civil society to make visible, on-the-ground improvements by
providing technical expertise, policy solutions, research publications, and training

About the Position
ITDP India is looking to hire a Research Intern - Low Emission Mobility Zones interested in
research on air pollution, vehicle technologies, transport systems, urban planning, and public
policy. The ideal candidate must be passionate about creating healthy streets and vibrant
cities that prioritise walking, cycling, public transport, and clean technology, and be proficient
in preparing high-quality graphic content, and have excellent written and verbal
communication skills. The selected candidate will work closely with ITDP India’s
programmatic team in Pune until December 2023.

Roles and responsibilities
The intern shall work closely with associates and report to the Deputy Manager - Healthy
Streets & Compact Cities. The primary responsibilities are given below, but the intern may be
required to perform additional tasks even if they are not explicitly mentioned.

  • Coordinate and support the team for the smooth progression of all Low Emission
Mobility Zones-related programmatic work;
  • Support the team to conduct research and prepare knowledge resources such
as technical guides, presentations, templates, and reports towards the Low
Emission Mobility Zone programme
  • Support GIS mapping and analysis and develop high-quality visual content
such as maps and infographics
  • Support with data collection, on-ground surveys, and coordination with various
stakeholders
  • Work with the communications team to prepare high-quality visual content for
advocacy and building support with government and non-government
stakeholders

Qualification and Essential Attributes
A degree in urban design/planning or environmental planning/climate science or

other relevant degree
  • Post-graduate degree in a similar discipline will be an advantage
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. Graphic skills are good to have.
  • Working knowledge of GIS and MS Office is required. Good to know Adobe Suite
  • Self-starter, motivated and driven to complete the allocated tasks
  • Strong time-management and organisational skills
  • The ability to communicate in Marathi will be an advantage

Remuneration: The stipend for this position shall be around Rs. 30,000 - Rs. 40,000 per
month based on the educational background, skills and experience.
