AREAS OF BUSINESS

1. Real Estate

Since 1974, and with 20 years of experience managing institutional capital, Fengate Real Estate has been developing and managing real estate assets across commercial and residential asset classes and the risk-return spectrum. To-date, Fengate Real Estate has completed over 75 property and investment transactions, which total more than C$11 billion of competed value, including C$4 billion under development.

2. Infrastructure

In 2006, Fengate established its first infrastructure fund with a mandate to invest in infrastructure investments in Canada. Today, Fengate has invested in over 45 assets which total more than C$25 billion of gross asset value in the social, transportation, energy transition and digital infrastructure sectors in Canada and the United States.

3. Private Equity

In 2016, Fengate launched its private equity platform to provide growth capital and partner with entrepreneurs to create lasting positive change in their businesses by realizing their growth ambitions. To-date, Fengate Private Equity has made seven investments, 20 add-ons and exited three businesses delivering top-quartile performance.

OPPORTUNITY

As a Private Equity Analyst Intern, you will have a role primarily working with the investment team within the Private Equity Group. The principal focus of this position will be researching and analyzing a variety of industries and investment opportunities, assisting with the execution of transactions, and supporting the investment team in building strategy initiatives for existing portfolio companies. The role will also expose you to financial reporting, tax and compliance related activities within the investments and funds.

The position will require the candidate to work with members across the Private Equity team, comprised of fifteen investment, origination, and financial reporting professionals.

Fengate is looking for a candidate who has a strong finance foundation coupled with interest and experience in research and investing. Fengate is looking for self-starters, with strong analytical and critical thinking skills, and excellent interpersonal, communications and collaboration skills.

Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the team with building financial models and conducting financial analysis for potential investments
  • Perform industry (e.g., competitive positioning, SWOT, supply chain, customer segmentation, etc.) and company research and diligence (e.g., operational, financial, commercial) to evaluate potential industries and investments
  • Assist in preparing investment memorandum materials in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • Participate in the ongoing management and performance monitoring of existing portfolio companies, including assisting in the internal valuation process (e.g. precedent and comparable trading analysis)
  • Assist the deal team and portfolio companies' management teams to implement initiatives and strategic decisions
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements, fund reports and investor notices for the respective funds
  • Ad-hoc analysis as well as special projects as required

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicant must be an undergraduate student having completed at least 2 years of study in a business/economics program, in excellent academic performance.
  • Previous co-op term of meaningful work experience is preferred, ideally in one or more of private equity, principal investing, investment banking, corporate development, capital markets, and/or management consulting.
