Chief Estimator

Main Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Management o Direct and supervise the estimating team, including recruitment, training, performance management, and workflow coordination.

o Develop and enforce estimating procedures, templates, and best practices.

o Allocate estimating assignments and ensure estimators produce high-quality, accurate work.

  • Estimating & Pre-construction

o Lead the preparation and review of detailed cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals.

o Conduct quantity takeoffs, analyze drawings and specifications, and verify scope completeness.

o Develop project cost structures, pricing strategies, and risk assessments.

o Oversee subcontractor and supplier solicitation, evaluation, and selection.

o Ensure estimates adhere to project timelines, client requirements, and company profit goals.

  • Business Development & Strategy

o Support executives and business development teams in assessing opportunities and proposal strategies.

o Provide conceptual estimates during early project stages.

o Work with clients, architects, engineers, and consultants to clarify scope and pricing.

o Participate in contract negotiations and value-engineering discussions.

  • Financial & Operational Oversight

o Review bid results and lead post-bid analysis to improve future performance.

o Monitor cost trends and maintain competitive pricing databases.

o Evaluate labor, equipment, and material cost data to refine estimating accuracy.

o Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and legal requirements.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of construction estimating experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior or lead estimator role.
  • Experience in the company’s specific project types (e.g., commercial, industrial, civil, residential, mechanical, or electrical).
  • Advanced understanding of construction methods, materials, and pricing trends.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-building abilities.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Pronamics, RibCandy, PlanSwift).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
