Meat Butcher

Join Our Team as a Butcher at Greenfield Custom Meats

Greenfield Custom Meats, a family-owned USDA facility in business since 1967, is looking for a skilled

Butcher Team Member to join our team. We are a full-service butcher shop that processes whole animals and primal cuts to produce high-quality beef and pork. We also create a variety of cooked and smoked products.

The ideal candidate is a driven and knowledgeable butcher who can thrive in a fast-paced environment. You should be experienced in whole-animal butchering and passionate about your craft.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Processing & Production: Cut, trim, and prepare meat for both custom and retail sales. Work as part of the team to harvest livestock.
  • Customer Service: Answer customer questions about different meat types, cuts, and suggested preparation methods.
  • Maintenance: Keep your knives and tools sharp, clean, and sterilized. Ensure your preparation areas are kept clean and follow all safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate with the butcher team to ensure all processing responsibilities are handled efficiently.
  • Quality Control: Perform quality inspections of meat and other related products.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Experience: At least two years of experience in a fast-paced meat processing facility.
  • Butchering Skills: Excellent cutting skills with the ability to break down products into sub-primal and retail cuts. You should be able to safely and precisely use saws, knives, scales, and other implements. Harvest floor experience is welcome but the right candidate that expresses skill and experience in either harvest side or fabrication of carcasses can learn the opposite.
  • Knowledge: A strong understanding of different meat types, cuts, and preparation methods. You should be familiar with food handling, sanitation, and USDA/HACCP requirements.
  • Physical Ability: The ability to stand for long periods of time—6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday. You must be able to regularly lift, push, and pull up to 75 pounds and occasionally over 150 pounds with assistance. You will also need to be able to work in cold environments.
  • Work Ethic: A strong work ethic is a must. You should be punctual, dressed appropriately, and ready to work your scheduled shifts.
